Akron Chapter of NAPM (ISM)
NAPM-Akron is a professional nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the purchasing and supply chain management professionals in the greater Akron area.  NAPM-Akron is affiliated with the Institute for Supply Management.  For more information about NAPM - Akron, contact our president:

Kathryn Krasnicki, C.P.M.

Over 50 individuals attended the April 23rd Satellite Seminar.  ISM has not yet announced the seminar topics for 2009-2010.

NAPM-Akron awarded five scholarships, totaling $3,000, to students majoring in Supply Chain Management at the University of Akron for the 2009-2010 year.

May 19th’s Dinner Meeting will be the last meeting for the 2008-2009 year.  I wish to thank not only the past presidents for who the meeting will honor but all of those individuals who have so unselfishly given of their time over the years to assist wherever help was needed to keep the Chapter active.

I particularly want to thank the following who have not only assisted me but have taken the initiative on many occasions to keep things running smoothly:

Jack Antalek, Steve Asseff, Terri Braun, Denise Dauchy, Wendy Davis, Gary Dellosa, Frank DiMauro, Barbara Osyk, Amy Tannert  and Bill Thompson.

Please consider volunteering.  To paraphrase – Many hands do indeed make the work light.

May 19th NAPM-Akron Meeting  -  Appreciative Inquiry

Appreciative Inquiry is an approach to problem solving that focuses on the positive rather than the negative.  Shouldn’t we concentrate on “what works” rather than “what doesn’t work”?  Perhaps some of your peers have found another way to make things work in the event of similar issues – how can YOU best take advantage of their strategies and not “re-invent the wheel”?

What better time than Past Presidents’ night to focus on how we can all learn from each other and  talk about what has worked for others in the past?  Please bring your problems AND your solutions to this meeting!  This event will provide an opportunity for us to all learn from each other.

This discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Barb Osyk.  Dr. Osyk is the current Director of Speakers for NAPM-Akron.  Dr.  Osyk is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management at The University of Akron.  She teaches in the areas of supply chain management, operations management, and quantitative business analysis and conducts research in the areas of student learning and the implementation of technology in the supply chain.

Objectives and Goals

The NAPM-Akron Board and Committee Chairs have established these objectives and goals for the 2004 through 2008 years. This plan will be reviewed each succeeding year and extended to the years beyond 2004.

  • Increase membership by identifying NAPM-Akron's market and selling the importance of/value of Purchasing to key managers/executives within our target market. This includes the development of a retention program to reduce the number of lost members.
  • Increase C.P.M. and/or A.P.P. certification of membership by providing strong professionalism/career development opportunities to include the involvement of local colleges/universities.
  • Improve the quality of ALL programs to make NAPM-Akron a more attractive and professional organization as measured by the increase of attendance at these programs (meetings and/or seminars).
  • Improve the quality of our affiliate newsletter (NAPM-Akron News) so as to be recognized as a highly informative, professional and educational form of media. This is to include a measurable increase in hard copy and electronic distribution.
  • Enhance the quality of our affiliate web site so as to be recognized as a highly informative, professional and educational form of media. This is to include promotion, training, ease of accessibility, URL name change (to NAPM-Akron.org), etc. along with a measurable increase in 'hits'.
